Jorvik Viking Centre - Location:
York, North Yorkshire
Project Description
Switch Networks, Telecoms & Broadband Provider and Fibre Optic Installers assisted Jorvik Viking Centre of York with a server relocation and fibre optic installation.
The Jorvik Viking Centre is a museum and visitor attraction in the centre of the city York, containing lifelike mannequins depicting Viking life in the city.
The client was looking to relocate their servers from their existing location to reclaim much needed office space. The equipment would be relocated to a more suitable part of the building using a fibre optic link between the two areas.
The Challenges
The distance between the two locations was over 150 metres, meaning the cable length was too far for a standard CAT6 cable solution.
The only cable route available was through the main exhibition areas and shop which the general public visits between 9am and 6pm.
The Solutions
Because the cable route would run through a public viewing area, the fibre optic cable was routed above suspended ceilings and containment.
Work was carried out during evening hours when the business was closed to visitors.
All areas were left clean and tidy for visitors arriving the following morning.
A large data cabinet was installed with additional access space to relocate the servers and to allow room for expansion.
Cables were tested and relabelled where necessary.
Testimonial
Fantastic service could not fault anything about the work. The guys were great to deal with and always on time. We will definitely work with them again.
