Project Description
Switch Networks, Telecoms Provider & Data Cabling and Fibre Optic Installers assisted DFS Furniture with data cable installation for their stores nationwide including their head office in Doncaster.
DFS are a large furniture retailer with 118 stores nationwide. Switch Networks have provided support for all stores and distribution centres for telephone system maintenance and data network cabling for 15 years.
The customer requested Switch Networks to assist them implement a new desk plan for a large sales office at their head office in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. They required relocation of 70 existing Cat6 data points and installation of a further 30 new data points using under floor tray work. Furniture to be repositioned and IT and Telephone equipment re-installed ready for staff to return to work.
The Challenges
The sales team would need to be fully operational during their business hours, so the work was required to be undertaken outside of these times.
Cables must be presented in precise locations according to desk location plans provided.
Due to cabling being in tray work underneath a raised floor, the sales department would need to be emptied of all furniture including desks, filing cabinets and printers to allow access. Desks would need to be repositioned and IT and Telephone equipment re-installed ready for staff to return to work on Monday morning.
The Solutions
Prior to installation the department floor would need to be cleared. Our engineers attended site over a weekend between 6am and 8pm. The office furniture was removed, and flooring lifted.
Cable locations are carefully measured using the scaled plans provided. This ensures the cables are tidy and out of sight when desks are replaced.
Cables were tested and relabelled in new locations where necessary.
Switch Networks continue to offer the client services such as telephone system maintenance and support and data cabling installation.
